Birth name: Amy Jade Winehouse. Born: September 14, 1983 Enfield, Middlesex, United Kingdom. September 5, 2008: "Amy Winehouse To Headline Bestival Festival; Organizers Worry Her Performance Would Become A Disaster After She Requested 48 Bottles Of Whiskey" Amy Winehouse has requested 48 bottles of whiskey for her rider at the Bestival festival. The troubled singer is set to headline the U.K. music event on the Isle of Wight this weekend, but organizers are worried it could become a disaster after she reportedly demanded the staggering amount of Jack Daniels bourbon. A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "It's common for artists to make requests for food and beverages before they arrive. But organizers have heard Amy has ordered in an extremely large amount of Jack Daniel's, in fact, a ridiculous amount that she and her team could not possibly consume during their short stay." "Naturally there are now fears she is planning something wild. With Amy's record this can mean failure to perform or giving a shambolic performance. Whiskey is better than heroin - but not 48 bottles of the stuff." "Back to Black" singer Amy is currently facing legal action after pulling out of Paris' Rock En Seine festival last week, citing illness. A previous request by Amy ahead of a show in Dublin, Ireland, in July included two bottles of red wine, a bottle of vodka, a bottle of brandy, a case of beer and 40 cigarettes. In July, Amy was hospitalized after collapsing at home, and diagnosed with the early symptoms of deadly lung disease emphysema. It was also revealed this week Amy had suffered fits after a 36-hour cannabis smoking session also in July. *** September 2, 2008: "Amy Winehouse Takes Up Buddhism After Being Inspired By Tina Turner" Amy Winehouse has taken up Buddhism. The troubled star has been inspired by singer Tina Turner to seek solace in the religion. The 24-year-old singer chants Nam Myoho Renge Kyo, a form of Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism. A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Amy was introduced to Buddhist chanting by one of her musicians. She chants for 10 minutes in the mornings and just before she sleeps." "Amy has also been watching the interview clip of Tina Turner chanting on YouTube and she reckons it's already affecting her in a positive way." "She has a string of Buddhist beads that she chants with, which she keeps in a red silk scarf. She says chanting is filling her life with positivity." Amy has endured a turbulent 2008. She has been in and out of rehab, involved in several drunken brawls, seen her husband Blake Fielder-Civil jailed and suffer numerous health problems, including scarring of the lungs. *** September 1, 2008: "Doctors Fear Amy Winehouse Might Be Suffering From Brain Damage After Overdosing From Cannabis" Doctors fear Amy Winehouse could be brain damaged after a cannabis overdose. The troubled "Rehab" singer indulged in a 36-hour pot smoking session in July this year, which left her vomiting uncontrollably and hallucinating. Medics also warned the hell raiser will die if she has another drug binge and worried she would break bones during a fit, which a friend said was "like something from 'The Exorcist'" - the infamous horror movie in which then-child actress Linda Blair projectile vomits pea soup after being possessed by a demon. The star's pal has also revealed how the 24-year-old overdosed on a mixture of crystal meth, cocaine, heroin, ecstasy and ketamine in August 2007. The source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "The future is bleak. Mitch does everything he can to protect his daughter - but his 'explanation' for Amy's hospital dash in July was just untrue." "She had smoked an inhuman amount of hash which resulted in acute cannabis poisoning. You have to take a s**tload of pot to suffer that severe a reaction." The award winning singer is said to be so drug ravaged she will not be well for years. Her friend added: "She is in need of years of psychiatry and medical treatment if she has a hope." *** August 29, 2008: "Amy Winehouse Voted The Celebrity With Worst Skin In New Poll" Amy Winehouse has been voted the celebrity with the worst skin. The troubled 24-year-old singer topped the poll of 3,000 Britons by high street chemist Superdrug. In March Winehouse was diagnosed with the infectious skin disease impetigo, a contagious bacterial skin infection that causes blistering and itchy rash. In second place was former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, 34, who is often seen with zits. "Charlie's Angels" actress Cameron Diaz came third, British glamor model Jordan, frequently pictured in heavy make-up, took fourth spot, while Britney Spears rounded off the top five. Superdrug spokesperson Caroline Bates said: "Despite being in the limelight, celebrities are often caught with bad skin on camera." At the other end of the scale, TV presenter Myleen Klass was voted the celebrity believed to have the best skin. Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, 38, came second, while Australian singer Kylie Minogue, 40, took third place in the poll. *** August 21, 2008: "Amy Winehouse Planning A Fireworks Display For Jailed Husband So They Can Both Watch The Spectacle Separately" Amy Winehouse is planning a fireworks display for her incarcerated husband Blake Fielder-Civil. The "Rehab" singer, who is reportedly set to check into rehab near the prison where Blake is being held, wants to put on a display which they can both watch from their separate institutions to show her husband how much she loves him. A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Amy loves fireworks and always makes a big deal of bonfire night. It's the reason that she released the deluxe edition of 'Back to Black' on November 5 last year." "Blake's a big fan as well. So she thought it would be wonderfully romantic to put on a show that he can enjoy through his barred window, knowing that she can see the same thing." The "Rehab" singer is to enter the Focus 12 Clinic in Bury St. Edmonds, Suffolk, which is just 15 miles from Highpoint Prison, near Newmarket, where Blake is serving his sentence for grievous bodily harm and perverting the course of justice. Amy was reportedly told to seek help following a shambolic performance at the Virgin Mobile V Festival last weekend. Focus 12 was reportedly recommended to Amy by British comic star Russell Brand who was treated for heroin addiction there in 2002 and is now its patron. *** August 20, 2008: "Amy Winehouse To Check Into A Rehab Facility Near Husband's Prison" Amy Winehouse is set to check into a rehab center near to the prison where her husband is currently being held. The troubled singer has reportedly been told to seek help following a shambolic performance at the V festival last weekend. Amy is planning to book into the "small and friendly" Focus 12 Clinic in Burt St. Edmunds, Suffolk - just 15 miles from Highpoint Prison, near Newmarket, where Blake Fielder-Civil is serving his sentence for grievous bodily harm and perverting the course of justice. Amy's dad Mitch has given his full support to her plan, telling Britain's The Sun newspaper: "This is a very good idea. If she can get clean and still see Blake it can only be good." Blake was moved to Highpoint Prison last month from London's Pentonville Prison and Amy had reportedly started house hunting in Suffolk in order to be nearer to him. Focus 12 was reportedly recommended to Amy by British comic star Russell Brand who was treated for heroin addiction there in 2002 and is now its patron. He is said to have asked Focus 12's chief executive Chip Somers to agree to treat Amy. Somers then contacted the 24-year-old "Back to Black" star to offer her a place at the clinic. *** August 17, 2008: "Amy Winehouse V Festival Performance 2008" Amy Winehouse performed at the V Festival in Staffordshire tonight, and she was a hot mess. Besides looking like she had not slept for days, she arrived 20 minutes late, which forced her band to keep the crowd amused while everyone waited. Dlisted, who has dubbed the troubled singer the Crackie of Camden, seems to have chosen a very fitting name. Amy’s hair was a tangled mess, her makeup was smeared all over her scabby face and her hands were filthy black. Aside from her appearance, her mind seemed to be on other things as she forgot the words to her hit, Back to Black, and mumbled to herself in between songs. Amy dedicated the next song, Wake Up Alone, to her husband Blake Fielder-Civil. But that didn’t go over well with the crowd who responded by booing. At least she is a step ahead of last year’s performance, which she missed due to a suspected drug overdose. Maybe next year will be the charm. *** August 14, 2008: "Amy Winehouse's monk invite" Amy Winehouse has been invited to join a group of singing monks. The 72-strong Cistercian Monks Of Stift Heiligenkreuz believe they could help the 'Back To Black' singer overcome her troubles. The monks are signed to the same record label as Amy, 24, and were given a copy of her 'Back To Black' album by a label worker. Brother Johannes Paul Chavanne, 25, told Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper: "For 10 minutes I liked it. But when I read the lyrics I thought it was sad. "I would like to invite her here - I feel sympathetic to people like her. She could stay a week or two and discuss the big questions of life - faith might be an answer for her." Despite singing songs from the 1800s, the monks were keen to dismiss claims they don't keep up with modern living. They said: "Johannes is a thoroughly modern monk, and has a computer and internet in his cell. *** August 13, 2008: "Amy Winehouse Rushing To Finish New Album For Husband's Release From Jail" Amy Winehouse is racing to get her new album ready for her husband's release from jail. Amy, 24, is pushing ahead in the studio to get her album finished in time for husband Blake Fielder-Civil's homecoming - which could be at the end of this year. A friend close to Amy told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Now she has some kind of timescale for Blake's release it has given her some focus. She wants something to impress him with because he has accused her of just sitting around doing nothing while he has been serving time." Amy is also planning to include a tribute to Blake on the album, and is planning to write "For my Blakey X" on the sleeve, possibly even using it as a song title. Blake is currently in HMP Edmunds prison in Suffolk, serving time for grievous bodily harm (GBH) and attempting to pervert the course of justice. He was sentenced to 27 months in July, but could be out by December 30 for time already served and good behavior. Meanwhile, Amy is said to have found a new house. She has her heart set on a $5 million house with a gym and swimming pool in North London - although her father Mitch would like her to move further away, to help her continuing recovery from drug and smoking related health problems. Mitch said Tuesday: "It's all positive news as far as her family is concerned and a move to the country will only benefit her." *** August 12, 2008: "Amy Winehouse Planning To Release Rejected James Bond Song" Amy Winehouse is planning to release the song James Bond bosses rejected. Amy is keen to show her effort is better than Alicia Keys and Jack White's collaboration, which was eventually chosen as the theme tune for 'Quantum of Solace'. Amy told Britain's New! magazine: "I want to prove they have made a big mistake. I don't think they could have waited a bit. If they want a worldwide hit, I have them all up here." "I guess they are going for clean-cut and boring. When I do release mine - and I am tempted to do it on the same day - this would be the bigger hit. If they change their minds, I am waiting!" Amy was the original choice for the prestigious honor, but sessions between the troubled singer and Mark broke down, with Mark saying she "wasn't ready to record music." The "Rehab" star then went into the studio with producer Salaam Remi, but her managers later admitted it was "unlikely" she would perform the Bond track. Mark recently revealed their pair were upset after failing to land the Bond song. He said: "It's really disappointing, of course it is. But at the time Amy was going through some s**t, and now she's doing great, so who cares if we missed the Bond boat." "It's fantastic to see her back on track again. We're both gutted we missed out on 007, but there will be other great opportunities for us." *** August 7, 2008: "Amy Winehouse Wants To Contribute To Her Father's Radio Show" Amy Winehouse wants to be an agony aunt on her father's radio show. The troubled singer is reportedly keen to use her experiences to help others when her dad Mitch co-hosts a BBC London afternoon show on September 1. Station assistant editor Justin King said: "Mitch and Amy are able to work really well together." "There isn't a question this agony aunt can't answer." In recent months, Amy - who has a history of drug-related problems - saw her husband Blake Fielder-Civil sentenced to 27 months in jail, was diagnosed with early signs of emphysema and was hospitalized when she collapsed after mixing up her medication. A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Although she often gets herself into trouble, she is very honest, very caring and very perceptive when it comes to dealing with other people's problems." "She is sick of all her problems being on everyone else's lips and really wants to focus on other people for a change." "And she can help her dad pick some tracks while she is there." However, Mitch has reportedly banned any Babyshambles or The Libertines records due to his dislike of Amy's friend Pete Doherty, who fronted both bands. *** August 6, 2008: "Agony aunt Amy Winehouse" Amy Winehouse wants to be an agony aunt on her father's radio show. The troubled singer is reportedly keen to use her experiences to help others when her dad Mitch co-hosts a BBC London afternoon show on September 1. Station assistant editor Justin King said: "Mitch and Amy are able to work really well together. "There isn't a question this agony aunt can't answer." In recent months, Amy - who has a history of drug-related problems - saw her husband Blake Fielder-Civil sentenced to 27 months in jail, was diagnosed with early signs of emphysema and was hospitalised when she collapsed after mixing up her medication. A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Although she often gets herself into trouble, she is very honest, very caring and very perceptive when it comes to dealing with other people's problems. "She is sick of all her problems being on everyone else's lips and really wants to focus on other people for a change. *** August 4, 2008: "Amy Winehouse Sings About Her Favorite Food In Upcoming Album" Amy Winehouse sings about her favorite foods on her new album. The "Rehab" singer is currently working on her third album and has taken inspiration from her favorite meals while writing tracks. A source said: "When Amy's working she gets loads of Caribbean food delivered to the studio. It can get a bit messy sometimes. But that's where Amy gets her soul from - good old-fashioned soul food." The 24-year-old singer has previously revealed she often makes meatballs for her friends after nights out, and one of her new songs includes the line: "I can cook, chicken soup, meatballs, a good chicken - jerk and fried." Amy has been trying to stick to a healthy diet in order to put on weight since she left hospital, which could be the reason behind the new lyrics. The source said: "The lyrical content is a little off the wall. But Amy writes about what's on her mind - and she goes all out." "It's only in its early stages, but Amy is really excited about getting back to what she does best - making great music." The troubled singer has been revisiting her past on other songs on the album. The source added to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "She's working on one track which talks about her upbringing as a Jewish girl. The song brings her back to happier days when she didn't have a care in the world." *** July 30, 2008: "Amy Winehouse's Dad Denies The Singer Had A Drug Overdose" Amy Winehouse's father has denied she took a deliberate drugs overdose. The 'Rehab' singer was rushed to London's University College Hospital on Monday after she suffered convulsions, and Mitch claims she fell ill after taking a double dose of prescription medication. He said: "Amy did not take a deliberate drug overdose. She is on medication to wean her off hard drugs and she took the wrong amount. She took two doses instead of one by mistake." "The drug replacement is an opiate and caused her to feel ill and have a fit." Mitch also insisted Amy is doing "the decent thing" by trying to kick her drug habit and deserves more sympathy. He added to Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "She is doing the decent thing by trying to help herself and get off hard drugs. She doesn't seem to be getting the recognition and credit she deserves." Despite Mitch's claims, other reports suggest Amy collapsed after mixing her medication with alcohol during a four-hour drinking binge. The singer is alleged to have taken part in a drinking game which saw her down shots of rum and then take 11 different prescription pills. A source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "Amy was downing the neat spirit as part of a card game and generally having a great time with her friends at her home." "But the problems started when she then took her medication - all 11 tablets - and all hell broke loose. She clutched her stomach and was in such agony that everyone genuinely feared the worst." *** July 29, 2008: "Amy Winehouse Never Wanted To Be Famous" The 'Back to Black' singer is "deeply uncomfortable" with her level of fame and prefers to socialize with "ordinary" people, according to her manager Raye Cosbert. He said: "Amy is a public person. She's not like your usual reclusive star. She likes ordinary people." "She likes playing pool with the bin men in her local pub. If she could take the tube everywhere, she would. She feels deeply uncomfortable in the world of VIP celebrity. It's unfortunate that you can't teach somebody how to deal with fame." Amy also struggles to realize how famous she is, claims her father Mitch. Speaking about her performance at London's Somerset House last year, Mitch Winehouse recalled to Britain's Sunday Times magazine: "She said to me, 'Dad what are all these people doing here?' She didn't get it. She didn't understand that she was the number one recording star in the world and everyone wanted to see her." *** July 28, 2008: " Amy Winehouse Hospitalized" Amy Winehouse was rushed to the hospital from her north London home on Monday night. An ambulance followed by several police cars arrived at Wino’s home at approximately 8.40 pm Monday night. She was later seen wrapped in a red blanket and given an oxygen mask before being taken to the nearby hospital as her father Mitch looked on. Her rep has issued this statement, "Amy Winehouse suffered a reaction to medication at home this evening and was taken to the hospital. Doctors have advised that she will be kept under observation overnight and is likely to be released tomorrow." *** July 28, 2008: "Amy Winehouse's Husband Wants Her To Leave London" Blake Fielder-Civil believes the only way he and the troubled singer can quit drugs for good is to move away from the temptations that currently surround them. Amy's father Mitch told Britain's Sunday Times newspaper: "Blake totally gets it. He said to me, 'We can't carry on living in Camden. We need to move out to the country.' " "If they do, they could have the most fantastic life together, with the full blessing of my family. Whatever happens, we won't be where we are now in two years." Mitch, who has previously disapproved of Blake's influence on his daughter, says he doesn't blame him for his daughter's drug use. He added: "He didn't coerce her to take drugs in any way." "I wish he had. Because if he had she would most likely have said, 'I don't want to do it.' " Mitch's comments come as Amy appeared to breakdown during a night out in London on Saturday. She reportedly sat on the floor sobbing outside a bar before lashing out at a minder who tried to help her, screaming: "F**k off and just leave me alone - that's not the way I do things." She eventually got up and headed for a nearby club but stayed just 30 minutes. A source said: "She was in a terrible state. She left by the back door and went home in tears." "She had a black coat over her head and a swollen hand. She looked awful, like her world is falling apart." *** July 25, 2008: "Amy Winehouse Immortalized In Wax" A waxwork of Amy Winehouse was unveiled by her parents, the petite figure towering almost 6ft tall in killer heels and sporting a huge beehive. Mitch and Janis Winehouse launched the Madame Tussauds work in the Music Zone of the venue popular with tourists. The model of the Grammy Award-winning Back to Black singer wore the same outfit that her real-life inspiration wore to the Brits - a thigh-skimming mini dress teamed with black high heels and huge red hooped earrings. *** July 24, 2008: "Amy Winehouse's Dad "Couldn't Be More Proud" Of Troubled Daughter" Mitch Winehouse insists he "couldn't be more proud" of daughter Amy. The former taxi driver says his pride for the 'Rehab' singer will never fade. As he unveiled Amy's waxwork at London's Madame Tussauds museum yesterday morning, he said: "Nobody - as a family - nobody could be more proud of their child. I mean, she's a wonderful kid, she's a great girl, and we're extremely proud of her." Mitch also spoke about reports Amy is keen to have five children as soon as her husband Blake Fielder-Civil - who has been sentenced to 27 months in jail on charges of GBH (grievous bodily harm) and perverting the course of justice - is released. He added to UK TV show 'GMTV': "It would be great to be grandparents. If Blake cleans up his act, as I'm sure he will do, they'll have a wonderful life together and we can look forward to being a happy family." *** July 23, 2008: "Amy Winehouse Thinking About Motherhood" Amy Winehouse has revealed she wants at least five children and twins. The troubled singer insists she and husband Blake Fielder-Civil - who this week was sentenced to 27 months in prison for GBH (grievous bodily harm) and perverting the course of justice - are ready to start their family. She said: "I love kids. To be honest, I think kids have got a lot more going on than adults. They've got their heads screwed on a lot better. Blake and I can't wait to have kids. I want at least five kids, and I want twins." "Blake is going to be the most amazing dad. When Blake was about we talked about it all the time. We'd like to have identical twins. Blake had a dream that we had a girl who was dark like me. And then I had a dream that I had one older, like 18 months old, dark like me and identical twin babies. I want twins so I'll keep going until we have them." *** July 21, 2008: "Amy Winehouse's Husband Sentence" Amy Winehouse's husband was sentenced to 27 months in prison yesterday (21.07.08). Blake Fielder-Civil, who pleaded guilty last month to charges of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and perverting the course of justice, had begged Judge David Radford to let him walk free so he could help stop Amy taking drugs. Blake's barrister Jeremy Dein QC, said at East London's Snaresbrook Crown Court: "They are very much committed to each other and their ambition is to divorce themselves from hard drugs and not separate themselves from each other. "Knowing the nation's glare is upon him, Mr. Fielder-Civil has every possible motive to rehabilitate himself in the way he has already shown he is fully committed to doing. He knows if he fails, an appointment with calamity awaits, not just for himself but for his wife. "He can now see that hard drugs are to be regarded as nothing other than a smiling assassin. He wishes now to become a role model for Miss Winehouse but he knows it would be impossible for her to alienate herself from drugs if he continues to befriend them." Amy, who has attended most of her husband's previous court hearings, was not present at the sentencing. Dein had also urged the judge to give Blake a community order, a suspended sentence or prison term of no longer than 18 months. Blake has already served around nine months. As he announced his sentence, Judge Radford said Blake had behaved in a "gratuitous, cowardly and disgraceful" way. Blake, 26, and his friend Michael Brown admitted to attacking pub landlord James King in 2006, leaving him with a broken nose and cheekbone. King was later offered £200,000 and a holiday in Spain to drop the charges. *** July 17, 2008: "Amy Winehouse's Dad And His Constant Media Interviews" There's something about Amy Winehouse that is so reminiscent of Britney Spears. Both are tabloid headliners, they have great career, a downward spiral fall, and controlling dads. And now that the American pop star is on her way to recovery, thanks to Papa Spears, can the British songstress' dad do miracles for his daughter as well? It seems just yesterday when Spears, 26, had rebelliously shaved her head bald, did numerous public meltdowns, showed off her pantyless crotch, and was twice escorted from her home to the hospital on a gurney. Now, the recovering pop princess appears to have been doing nicely ever since her dad acted as her conservator. She can now have sleepovers with her kids when just a few months ago she wasn't even allowed to see them. There are also no more late night shopping trips and drunken night outs. Plus, it has just been confirmed, she's doing a comeback album that would most surely be a hit again. As for 24-year-old Winehouse, judging from the current events in her life, she's still a long way from recovery. But worry not, like Spears, the "Rehab" star also has a dad that is conce |
