Born: December 11, 1974 in Essex. Birth name: Benjamin Peter Sherrington Shephard. Ben Shephard biography (bio): Benjamin Peter Sherrington Shephard is an English television presenter. He was educated at Chigwell School, and further achieved a 2:2 BA Honours from Birmingham University in Dance, Drama & Theatre Arts. Ben lived in North London's Islington from 2001-2004 and now lives in South West London with his wife Annie and two sons Samuel (born May 2005) and Jack (born January 2007). As well as being a huge West Ham supporter (he famously got Britney Spears to admit that she was a fan of the Hammers), he also has representative honours in both rugby & football. He started off his career presenting on MTV and then went on to present The Bigger Breakfast and T4. In his early career he appeared in the video game Hardwar as the character Syd. In 2000 he joined GMTV as a presenter on Entertainment Today. Today he still presents this programme (with Jenni Falconer), though he is also a fairly regular co-presenter of the main programme, where he is required to wear a tie - something he said he would never do! He used to present The Xtra Factor on ITV2, a spin off from The X Factor before being replaced by Fearne Cotton for the 4th series. Then, in 2006, along with co-presenter Fern Britton, he presented the reality TV show Soapstar Superstar. But Britton and Shephard were both sacked from hosting the second series of the show and were replaced by Zoe Ball. The reasons for their sacking are unconfirmed but is rumoured that the show's producers felt that Ball's perceived higher celebrity status might succeed in attracting more attention to the show. Shephard has also reported for ITV's All*Star Cup. During the second series of ITV's Dancing on Ice, Ben presented the spin off show, Dancing on Ice Exclusive along with Andi Peters. He also presents Saturday Morning Magic from 7am to 10am on London radio station Magic 105.4. On a recent edition of The Paul O'Grady Show, Ben modestly admitted to have been voted as the 73rd sexiest male in the world. It has been reported in The Sun and The Daily Mirror on Wednesday 2 May 2007, that Shephard won't be returning for the 4th series of The Xtra Factor. This was confirmed when Ben admitted that it was because he was passed over for promotion. Ben left The X Factor franchise to front BBC One's new show DanceX which has proved to be hugely unsuccessful, with viewing figures hanging around 2 million compared to The X Factor's launch of 9.5m viewers and a peak of 10.7m. |
