August 20, 2008: "Christina Applegate Looking Forward To Having Reconstructive Breast Surgery"
Christina Applegate can't wait for new "cute boobs" after having a double mastectomy. The 36-year-old actress, who decided to have both breasts removed three weeks ago after cancer was detected in one of her breasts, is looking forward to having reconstructive surgery. Christina bravely joked: "After looking at all the treatment plans available to me I had a prophylactic double mastectomy. I just wanted to be rid of this whole thing for me. This was the choice that I made, and it was a tough one." "I'm going to have cute boobs until I'm 90. I'm going to have the best boobs in the nursing home!" The "Samantha Who" star, who plans to have the surgery in the next eight months, admits she has days where she struggles to cope with her emotions. Christina added to U.S. TV show "Good Morning America": "Sometimes I cry. Sometimes I scream. I get really into wallowing in self-pity sometimes. It's all part of healing. It's OK to cry, it's OK to fall on the ground and just scream if you want to." The blonde star says she is now "100 per cent clear and clean" of the disease following a successful course of treatment. Christina has stuck to a macrobiotic diet and avoided processed foods since her cancer diagnosis. *** August 18, 2008: "Give Us Your Words of Encouragement for Christina Applegate!" In an interview airing Tuesday morning on ABC's "Good Morning America," Christina Applegate declares that she has won her brief battle with breast cancer, but that she had to make the dramatic decision to have both of her breasts removed to increase the chances that it would not return. Give us your thoughts below on how the actress has dealt with her cancer and your comments may end up on "The Insider" on TV tonight! "My decision after looking at all the treatment plans that were possibilities for me, the only one that seemed the most logical, and the one that was going to work for me, was to have a bilateral mastectomy," she tells Robin Roberts. She says she decided to make that decision to increase her chances that the cancer would not return. "I didn't want to go back to the doctors every four months," she says. "I wanted to be rid of it. For me this was the choice I made and it was a tough one." Although she knows she made the right decision, she still finds her self breaking down at times. "Sometimes I cry and sometimes I scream and I get really angry," she says. "It's all a part of healing and anyone who's going through out there, it's okay to cry. It's okay to fall on the ground and just scream if you want to." But things are looking up for the actress, who says in the interview that she's now cancer free. "Absolutely 100 percent clear and clean," she says. "They got everything out, so I'm definitely not going to die from breast cancer." The full interview will air on "Good Morning America" on Tuesday at 7 a.m. *** August 4, 2008: "Christina Applegate Diagnosed With Breast Cancer" Christina Applegate has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
