August 14, 2008: " David Cook Meets the Mets"

David Cook hit a few balls before the Mets played the San Diego Padres at Shea Stadium in New York last week. The 25-year old American Idol champ was joined by fellow American Idol finalist Carly Smithson and also got to hang out with a couple of the Mets players. David also had the honor of throwing out the first pitch of the game. David said of the experience “I am a Kansas City sports fan, but I’m a baseball fan, more than anything. To be able to come to Shea, with all the history and the fact there’s going to be a new stadium next season, is really cool.”

"American Idol" winner David Cook and "Idol" alum Kimberly Caldwell are taking their new relationship to another level - up in the private Baseline Box seats at last Tuesday's Dodgers game.

Caldwell performed the National Anthem at the game. Other than that, the two managed to escape being shown on the Dodger Vision video board.

"Kimberly was definitely nervous about the public appearance! They were really cute and sweet together, laughing and having a lot fun," a source told Usmagazine.

The same source said Caldwell was concerned about her her "boyfriend's" privacy.

David Cook first asked Caldwell out on a date on live national TV the same week he won "American Idol."
"We went on a date. It was nice. We'll see what happens," David Cook recently told People.

June 5, 2008: "David Cook Dishes About Dating And Life Post "Idol""

"American Idol" winner David Cook recently talked to People about dating and his life since the show ended a few weeks ago.

"I'm very much a hopeless romantic. I still kind of believe in movies," he told the magazine.

David Cook said he always tries to be a gentleman on dates and that he would eventually love to have a family of his own, but that he's "got the world to learn" first.

David Cook caught attention when he asked "Idol" alum Kimberly Caldwell out on a date on live national TV.

"I didn't really think it through or I would've realized that everyone would be asking me about it. I can tell you this: I won't be asking anyone out on TV again. We went on a date. It was nice. We'll see what happens," he told People.

About how his life has changed the past few months he said, "It's hard not to feel like your existence has shifted."

"I'm just a goof who got lucky."

June 4, 2008: ""American Idol" Producer Says Winner David Cook Needs More Personality"

"American Idol" producer Nigel Lythgoe said this season's winner, David Cook, could be "enormous for a long time", but only if he gets a personality first.

"He can certainly sing - and I'd like to see a bit more personality when he's singing," he said in an interview with OK! Magazine.

In fact, Lythgoe said both of this season's finalists, David Cook and David Archuleta, lacked on-stage charisma.

"And that was the only thing that I think our finalists lacked a little bit this year, was more charisma," said the producer.

Lythgoe said David Cook has the potential for success to rival that of Idol alum Chris Daughtry. He suggested that both of the Davids use their summer "American Idol Live" tour to add a spark to their performances.

David Cook, however, is already experiencing success. His first single, "The Time of My Life," debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week.

May 26, 2008: "David Cook on CNN"

American Idol champ David Cook, along with the rest of the Idol finalists, was at CNN studios to get interviewed on Larry King Live. David Cook was asked if he felt relieved that the whole experience was over to which he replied “Yes, in a way. The whole show, the eight-month process from first audition to this, it feels like you’re holding your breath a little bit. And I’ve been asked a few times why I cried at the end. And for me, that was just an exhale, to step back and really think about what just happened. It’s pretty heavy. So, yes, I am relieved, because, now I get to move on to the next phase of all this, which is a record and a tour and all the good stuff.”

Birth name: David Roland Cook
Born: December 20, 1982 in Houston, Texas, USA

David Cook's interest in music began early in life; he received his first guitar at the age of 12. David Cook began singing in second grade, when his elementary school music teacher gave him a solo in a school choir performance. David Cook proceeded to perform in virtually every Christmas and PTA program. He also participated in choir and drama programs in middle school and high school. At Blue Springs South High School, he performed in musicals, including The Music Man, West Side Story, and Singin' in the Rain. David Cook earned a theater scholarship to the University of Central Missouri, but he abandoned theater after two semesters, graduating from the school in 2006 with a degree in graphic design. After his college graduation, he relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to pursue a career in music.

David Cook was the lead singer and guitarist of the band Axium from 1999 until 2006. He formed Axium in his junior year of high school with drummer Bobby Kerr. One of the band's songs, "Hold," was picked up by AMC Theatres Movie Tunes and was played before previews on over 20,000 screens nationwide.

In 2006, after the breakup of Axium, David Cook relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and joined the regional touring band Midwest Kings, playing guitar, bass, and singing backup vocals. He recorded one EP, Incoherent with Desire to Move On, with the band in 2006.

David Cook released a solo independent album, Analog Heart, in 2006, the year he graduated from college. The album was chosen as the fourth-best CD released in 2006 by website Music Equals Life. David Cook also won the Urban Tulsa Weekly's "Absolute Best of Tulsa" award for "Best Locally Produced, Independent Album" in 2007. He had completed recording his sophomore album before his appearance on American Idol. Over the weekend of April 18 to April 20, 2008, Analog Heart was listed as the number one album for "Today's Top MP3 Albums" on Amazon.com.

David Cook auditioned for American Idol in Omaha, Nebraska, performing Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer." For his first Hollywood audition, David Cook performed "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" by Bryan Adams, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. Later in the week he performed "I'll Be" by Edwin McCain.

David Cook took advantage of the decision to allow contestants to play musical instruments. Besides his Hollywood audition, he also accompanied himself on electric guitar for his performances of "All Right Now," "Hello," "Day Tripper," "I'm Alive," "Baba O'Riley," "Dare You to Move," and "Dream Big," and on acoustic guitar for "Little Sparrow," "All I Really Need Is You," and "The World I Know." Since the Top 12 week, he has also been wearing an orange wristband to support a 7-year-old fan, Lindsey Rose, with leukemia.

"Billie Jean," one of his performances, was highly praised by all three judges, especially Simon Cowell. On April 1, before performing his self-arranged rendition of "Little Sparrow" on American Idol, David Cook responded to Ryan Seacrest in the interview session, revealing that his performance of "Eleanor Rigby" was based on Neil Zaza's and Doxology's versions. He also reiterated the credits of Whitesnake and Chris Cornell. His arrangements of "Hello," "Little Sparrow," "Always Be My Baby," "All I Really Need Is You," "Baba O'Riley," "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" were original arrangements.

On April 1, 2008, a few hours after American Idol aired, TMZ.com reported that David Cook was rushed to the hospital because his "heart was palpitating at a high rate and his blood pressure was high." The website claimed that Cook was not feeling well before the performance of Dolly Parton's "Little Sparrow" that night, but he had refused to go to the emergency room until the end of the show. Stress over a recent "setback" in his brother Adam's struggle with brain cancer may have been a contributing factor.

David Cook won American Idol season 7 on May 21, 2008, receiving 56% of the votes with David Archuleta as the first runner-up. Cook then sang "The Time of My Life", the winning song of the 2008 American Idol Songwriter's Competition.

During the finale of season 7 of American Idol, David Cook appeared in a commercial for the game franchise Guitar Hero, mimicking Tom Cruise in Risky Business.

For the Billboard chart week of June 7, 2008, a week following Cook's American Idol victory, David Cook broke several Billboard chart records. Most notable was his record shattering feat of having eleven songs debut on the Hot 100 that week, beating the previous record set by Miley Cyrus in 2006 when she had six songs debut on the chart. David Cook's first single, "The Time of My Life" led the pack, debuting at #3 on the Hot 100.

David Cook is currently due to work with Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer, Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic and Jesse McCartney on his upcoming album. The album is slated to release in the fall of 2008.
