August 18, 2008: " Actors Donate Salaries To Matilda Ledger"
Despite the fact that Heath Ledger Heath Ledger did not change his will to leave anything to his daughter, Matilda Rose, the little girl will be well taken care of. That’s all thanks to the Hollywood stars who took Heath’s place on his last film, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. Jude Law Jude Law , Colin Farrell Colin Farrell , and Johnny Depp were also friends of the late actor, and have donated their entire paychecks to the little girl. Imaginarium director Terry Gilliam told the press, “They didn’t take money — it goes to Heath’s daughter. That’s extraordinary! And wonderful… and when you’re part of that, you think, ‘Ah, this is maybe why I went into the movies in the beginning. I thought it would be full of wonderful people.’ And we’ve got a movie full of wonderful people who did extraordinary things to help.” *** August 11, 2008: "Heath Ledger's Dad To Open A Bar He Planned Before He Died" Heath Ledger's father will open a bar in tribute to plans made by his late son. The "Dark Knight" star was set to open "BrightSide" in New York before he died of an accidental overdose, and his father Kim has donated money to finish the project. Jud Mongell, a friend and business partner of Heath, said: "He drew the floor plans, and thought of the name - "BrightSide" - because it's on the bright side of McCarren Park." "The whole idea was to make it a spot for us. We wanted to make it our own space to hang out." Heath died in January and it is hoped the establishment will serve as a place to remember the 28-year-old actor. A source said: "Everyone is really excited that Heath's bar will open soon. He played an active part in getting the project together." John McCormick, who designed the interior, added: "He specifically talked about having a big table for him and his family to sit at. It was great working for Heath. He was the most unassuming guy." *** July 15, 2008: "Heath Ledger's Parents Are So Proud Of Heath Ledger" "The Dark Knight" premiered Monday night in New York, and Heath Ledger's parents and family were there to see the results. I can tell you that the Ledgers wholeheartedly approved of the film, although it was incredibly difficult for them to watch their late son on the screen. After the screening at the IMAX theater in Lincoln Square, the Ledgers gave me this statement: "'The Dark Knight' is everything we hoped it would be and more. Heath loved the experience of creating this character and working on the film. We are so proud of our boy." *** June 24, 2008: "Heath Ledger's Family To Attend "The Dark Knight" Premiere" Heath Ledger's ex Michelle Williams has heard rumors saying she won't attend the premiere of "The Dark Knight," which stars Ledger, because of a rift between herself and his family. A rep for Williams said the rumors are absurd. Heath Ledger's family has confirmed they will be flying from Perth, Western Australia to New York City to attend his premiere on July 14 to see "The Dark Knight." That will fall just days before the six-month anniversary of the actor's death. "The presumption that Michelle ever intended to attend "The Dark Knight" premiere is unfounded, but to say she is 'boycotting' due to a rift with Heath's family is absurd," Williams' rep Mara Buxbaum said in a statement. She added: "It is time to allow this family to go about their lives without this continued scrutiny and speculation." *** April 15, 2008: "Heath Ledger Warned About His Dangerous Behavior On Dark Knight Set" Heath Ledger was told to seek professional help for his personal problems while filming 'The Dark Knight'. The late Australian actor - who tragically died from an accidental prescription drugs overdose in January - was reportedly warned he had become too obsessed with his portrayal of iconic Batman villain The Joker in the upcoming blockbuster. A source told FOX News: "Heath refused to talk to anyone out of character. If you tried to communicate with him normally instead of The Joker, he would just ignore you. "He would often come to the set to hang out even on his days off, freaking everyone out. Towards the end of filming, he was warned by people that he had gone too far, but it was almost like he couldn't connect with those who cared for him anymore." Ledger reportedly locked himself in an apartment for an entire month before playing The Joker, who he described as a "psychotic, mass-murdering clown". Ledger also admitted he had such trouble sleeping while shooting the film he resorted to taking the prescription drug Ambien. Sources on the set of 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' - the movie Ledger was filming when he died - also claimed the actor could not "snap out" of character and seemed to have "lost sense" of who he was. *** March 9, 2008: "Heath Ledger’s Father Says Michelle Williams And Matilda “Will Be Taken Care Of”" Heath Ledger’s father has revealed that Michelle Williams and her daughter Matilda “will be taken care of” after the news that Heath left everything to his parents and sisters in his will, which was made before Michelle and Matilda were part of his life. Heath left a three page will which was filed in his native Australia in 2003, before he became engaged to Michelle Williams and they had Matilda. Documents filed in Manhattan’s Surrogate Court show that Heath left just under $145,000 in assets when he died. These include $100,000 deposited in several bank accounts, a $25,000 hybrid Toyota Prius, and $20,000 in furniture and fixtures. The value of the Brooklyn townhouse he shared with Michelle, trust funds, and Australian property is unknown. Heath’s father Kim Ledger, said, “Matilda is an absolute priority and Michelle is an integral part of our family. They will be taken care of and that’s how Heath would want it to be.” *** March 4, 2008: "Ledger's Last Girlfriend Speaks Out" After expressing an initial wish to steer clear of the subject of Heath Ledger, to whom she had been linked, Australian model Gemma Ward is now speaking out about him. "I think he operated from the heart. He really, really knew that if he was going to make a decision to be in a film, then he needed to be really committed to it," Ward, 20, tells Australia's Sydney Morning Herald. "He wasn't afraid to fight with people involved, he wasn't afraid to perhaps piss people off," she said of Ledger, 28. Ledger also gave advice to Ward, who has a budding career as an actress and stars in the upcoming film The Black Balloon. "He told me to always be a punk and 'stand up for yourself'." *** Actor Heath Ledger picture(s)/pic(s), wallpaper and photo gallery. Birth name: Heath Andrew Ledger. Children: Matilda Rose Ledger (B.2005). *** Heath Ledger Memorial at His Manhattan Apartment, 421 Broome Street January 24,2008 Heath Ledger biography (bio): Heath Andrew Ledger is an Academy Award-nominated Australian actor. Early life: Ledger was born in Perth, Western Australia, the son of Sally Ledger Bell (née Ramshaw), a French teacher, and Kim Ledger, a race car driver and mining engineer. Ledger's mother is descended from the Clan Campbell of Scotland and his father comes from a family well-known in Perth, as the Sir Frank Ledger Charitable Trust was named after his great-grandfather. Ledger attended Marys Mount Primary School, in Gooseberry Hill, and later Guildford Grammar School and its preparatory school of the same name. At 16, Ledger sat for early graduation exams, and left school to pursue an acting career with girlfriend Jenna Sorrell. With his best friend, Trevor DiCarlo, Ledger made the cross-country drive to Sydney. He returned to Perth for the TV series Sweat (1996), in which he played a gay cyclist. He then starred in the American television series Roar. Career: In 1996, prior to his film debut in the 1997 Australian movie Blackrock, Heath Ledger was involved in the short lived Fox Broadcasting Company fantasy-drama Roar. In 1999, Ledger starred in the teen comedy 10 Things I Hate about You and also had the lead role in the acclaimed Australian movie Two Hands, directed by Gregor Jordan. Since then he has starred in The Patriot, Monster's Ball, A Knight's Tale, Ned Kelly, The Order, and The Brothers Grimm. In 2001, he won a ShoWest Award for the Male Star of Tomorrow based on his performance in The Patriot, and worldwide release of A Knight's Tale. In 2003, he was named one of Australian GQ's Gay Men of the Year for acting. In 2005, Ledger received a "Best Actor in a Drama" Golden Globe nomination for his acclaimed performance in Brokeback Mountain, in which he plays Wyoming ranch hand Ennis Del Mar, who has a love affair with aspiring rodeo rider Jack Twist, played by Jake Gyllenhaal. In the New York Times review of the film, critic Stephen Holden wrote: "Both Mr. Ledger and Mr. Gyllenhaal make this anguished love story physically palpable. Mr. Ledger magically and mysteriously disappears beneath the skin of his lean, sinewy character. It is a screen performance, as good as the best of Marlon Brando and Sean Penn." In another review in Rolling Stone, Peter Travers wrote: "Ledger's magnificent performance is an acting miracle. He seems to tear it from his insides. Ledger doesn't just know how Ennis moves, speaks and listens; he knows how he breathes. To see him inhale the scent of a shirt hanging in Jack's closet is to take measure of the pain of love lost." Ledger received "Best Actor of 2005" awards for Brokeback Mountain from both the New York Film Critics Circle and the San Francisco Film Critics Circle. He was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance. In the same year, Ledger played a fictionalized version of Giacomo Casanova in Casanova. The film, a romantic comedy which co-starred Sienna Miller, drew mixed reviews from critics and failed to find a significant audience among general moviegoers, though it fared better on DVD. In 2006, Ledger was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In Spring 2006, it was announced that Ledger would portray Bob Dylan in the film I'm Not There. Although not actually playing Dylan himself, Ledger along with several other actors will portray different sides of the singer. On July 21, 2006, Ledger was officially confirmed to play iconic comic book villain The Joker in The Dark Knight, the sequel to the 2005 film Batman Begins, opposite fellow I'm Not There star Christian Bale. The film is due in 2008.[8] In 2006, Ledger directed three music videos: "Cause an Effect" and "Seduction Is Evil (She's Hot)" for Australian hip-hop artist N'fa, as well as "Morning Yearning" for Ben Harper. Music: Ledger started a record company with singer Ben Harper. His first step in the music business was directing Harper's video "Morning Yearning". He has directed and produced Australian artist N'Fa's work, including his video "Seduction is Evil". Relationship with the press: Ledger has a turbulent relationship with paparazzi photographers. It is alleged that he spat at and assaulted a photographer in Sydney in 2004, while a relative also is alleged to have spat on a photographer in 2005. Ledger strongly denies the accusation. On January 13, 2006, several photographers retaliated, squirting Ledger with water pistols as he walked the red carpet for the Sydney premiere of Brokeback Mountain. Ledger has more recently been subject to criticism in the press following his performance on stage at the 2005 Screen Actors Guild Awards. Ledger was seen giggling when presenting Brokeback Mountain as a nominee for Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The Los Angeles Times described his behaviour as "some kind of gay spoof." Ledger later called the Times to explain that his actions were the result of stage fright, saying that he was only told he would be presenting the award minutes beforehand. "I am so sorry and I apologise for my nervousness," Ledger told the newspaper. Ledger also came under fire after he was quoted in January 2006 in Australia's Herald Sun as saying that West Virginia had banned Brokeback Mountain (which it had not). He also referred to the state as having had lynchings as recently as the 1980s. These statements have been roundly disputed by archivists and historians, who have found that the last extra-legal public hanging in West Virginia occurred in 1931. Personal life: Ledger had a relationship with Naomi Watts, whom he met in 2002 during the filming of Ned Kelly. They started dating in August 2002. The couple ended their relationship in April 2004. Previously, he had dated actresses Lisa Zane and Heather Graham. Ledger was engaged to actress Michelle Williams, whom he met on the set of Brokeback Mountain. They have a daughter, Matilda Rose, who was born on October 28, 2005. The child's godparents are Ledger's Brokeback costar Jake Gyllenhaal and Williams' Dawson's Creek castmate Busy Phillips. Ledger and his family divided their time between Brooklyn, Los Angeles, and Sydney. Ledger sold his Australian residence in Bronte, New South Wales, for A$7 million. In August 2007, Us Weekly reported that Ledger and Williams ended their relationship because of their busy schedule. Neither Ledger nor Williams has confirmed the rumor at the time of this writing. On September 4, 2007, Williams' father, Larry, confirmed to Sydney Daily Telegraph that Ledger & Williams have indeed split. In September 2007, Ledger began dating Helena Christensen. |
