Birth name: Jason Holiday. Born: November 29, 1984 Washington, D.C., USA. J. Holiday biography (bio): J. Holiday is a R&B singer who gained prominence with his single, "Bed". Early life: J. Holiday was born November 29, 1984 in Washington, D.C. to a musical family. His mother Frances, an ordained preacher, sang gospel with her five sisters, and his older sister provided background vocals for Crystal Waters. By the age of nine, Holiday began singing, encouraged by his male cousins. His father passed away when he was eleven. Holiday later moved to Virginia and enrolled at Mount Vernon High School in Fairfax County. But he was well known in the streets and would get into trouble. To help get his life back on track, he later went on to and graduated from T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia, made famous by the movie Remember the Titans. This is when his musical career began to take shape. Singing career: Holiday won numerous talent shows while a member of a local singing group. Later, he was part of a group called 295, named for the Washington, D.C interstate. With this group, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia. Holiday signed to Capitol and under the production of Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins recorded his first single "Be With Me" in 2006. His full-length debut Back of My Lac' was released on October 2, 2007. His official album release party was held at Lotus Lounge in Washington, D.C. on the same day. Holiday recently worked with Fat Joe on his new album The Elephant in the Room, producing the first single off the album, "I Won't Tell". Trivia: * J. Holiday has a tattoo that says "God's Gift" which he says is a reference to him considering his being left-handed God's gift to make him creative. * The "J" in J. Holiday stands for James, his late uncle's name. He got his name holiday from when he would be working in the studio, they would say it was so easy to the lay down a track, and it would be like they were on vacation, so they started calling him "J.HOLIDAY". * The single Be With Me was the the first single off the album and peaked at #83 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs early 2007. * The video for "Bed" was directed by Johnathon Mannion in Atlanta Georgia were its radio play aside from D.C. began. * "Bed" was the #1 R&B song in the country for 5 weeks in a row until it was dethroned by Alicia Keys' "No One". It peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 it reached the Top 20 in New Zealand, the Top 5 in Canada, and the Top 75 in the UK. * His video for the third single, "Suffocate," premiered on BET's 106 & Park on November 7, 2007 The video featured the same model, Jennifer Gordon, from the "Bed" video and was shot in Paris, France. * Suffocate has peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs. |
