The brunette beauty was welcomed into the world while her mother was serving a federal prison sentence in Texas, according to America's Star magazine. Leighton's mother, who gave birth to the actress in April 1986, was permitted to stay in a halfway house for the labor and birth. She was then forced to return to prison to complete her sentence for her role in a major drug-running ring on the same day Leighton turned three months old. Leighton was raised by a relative while her mother finished her sentence. The 22-year-old actress' father, grandfather and aunt have also reportedly spent time behind bars on charges of drug dealing. Leighton shot to fame playing bad girl Blair on the TV show, which has been a worldwide hit, and loves starring as such a "conflicted" character. She said recently: "The show needs to have conflict. If everyone was happy then it would suck. So we have a lot of conflict, believe me. And their conflict is very interesting, because it's very internal. There are no real outward obstacles. When she was 11, she moved with her family to New York City and soon after began working as a model with Wilhemina, booking a Ralph Lauren campaign shot by Bruce Webber and working with then photographer Sophia Coppola. She is best known as Savannah in the former NBC drama Surface. Other roles include guest starring as "Debbie Pendleton" on Season 4 of the FOX drama 24, as "Ali" in episode 3 and 4 of Season 3 of the FOX drama House, as "Carrie Bishop" on Season 1 of the UPN drama Veronica Mars, Chandler's new girlfriend Kendall in Season 8 of the WB drama 7th Heaven, as well as the role of "Justine Chapin" in Season 1 of the HBO comedy Entourage. Meester made her film debut in the feature "Hangman's Curse," based on the best-selling novel by Frank Peretti. She also recently starred in the independent film "Flourish" with future "House" co-stars Jennifer Morrison and Jesse Spencer, and in the drama "Inside." In 2006 she wrapped the female lead role in the comedy/horror film Drive-Thru. She has also recorded a song for the soundtrack of "Drive-Thru."
