August 21, 2008: "Nicole Richie Furious Over Joel Madden's Friendship With Mary-Kate Olsen" Nicole Richie is reportedly furious over her fiance's friendship with Mary-Kate Olsen. The 26-year-old socialite is believed to have told Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden, 29, to stay away from the actress after she was seen flirting with him at a recent dinner. A source said: "During the dinner, Mary-Kate was very playful with Joel. It was all fun and games, but with the Olsens nothing is as simple as that. The adopted daughter of Lionel Richie, she is known for her role in the reality show The Simple Life and her turbulent personal life. Childhood: Nicole Richie was born Nicole Camille Escovedo in Berkeley, California. Her biological mother was a backstage assistant for Lionel. Lionel Richie ran into Nicole first as a little girl playing on stage at a Prince concert, her mother was part of the wardrobe group. Nicole was playing a tamborine. Lionel became a guardian first for Nicole and later adopted her. A circulating rumor was the story that Richie had shown Hilton's sex tape at a party; though Richie has denied this. She was also driving with a suspended driver's license. On December 11, 2006 as well, Richie was arrested by the California Highway Patrol after she failed a field sobriety test and was charged with driving under the influence on California State Route 134 in the Burbank/Glendale, California area (Ironically, near her boyfriend's home). Several motorists had reported a black Mercedes-Benz G-Class entering the freeway on the exit ramp and traveling in the wrong direction. She admitted to using marijuana and Vicodin before the incident. On July 27, 2007, Richie was sentenced to four days in jail after she admitted to driving under the influence of drugs. Her sentence must, reportedly, be completed by September 28, 2007. Personal struggles: In the spring of 2006, Richie made media headlines with a dramatically thinner appearance, after spending two seasons of "The Simple Life" slightly heavier than her usual. In March 2007, Richie was taken to the hospital for dehydration and on March 21 her Reps announced she was diagnosed with hypoglycemia. In a March OK! magazine interview, Nicole said: "I don't care about any other rumor except the one that I have an eating disorder.
