Old Crow Medicine Show is an old-time musical group from Nashville, Tennessee. Along with original songs, the band performs many pre-World War II blues and folk songs. The style of music they perform is sometimes called bluegrass, Americana, or alt-country, in addition to "old-time." In the song "Wagon Wheel", vocalist/fiddle player Ketch Secor states, "I was born to be a fiddler in an old-time string band." The genre attracts many people, from bluegrass-loving babyboomers, to young country fans who find the lyrics edgy and the music provocative. The band originally formed when Ketch Secor gathered the musicians in and around Ithaca and Trumansburg, NY. They then left to busk street corners in Canada, perfecting their sound before heading to the south. The band was ultimately discovered by Doc Watson's daughter, Nancy. Their 2004 album O.C.M.S. was selected by CMT (Country Music Television) as one of the top-10 bluegrass albums of that year. Their current tour includes bars, festivals, and larger venues. They make frequent guest appearances on A Prairie Home Companion. The song "Wagon Wheel" is written based on a chorus composed by Bob Dylan for the film Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.
