August 18, 2008: "Phil Collins To Pay Ex-Wife Staggering $50 millon Divorce Settlement"
Phil Collins has been ordered to pay $50 million in the biggest celebrity divorce settlement ever seen in Britain. The Genesis singer must pay the staggering sum to his ex-wife Orianne Cevey, 35, who he split from two years ago. The settlement exceeds the $48.6 million Sir Paul McCartney was ordered to pay Heather Mills and the $25 million Sir Mick Jagger had to pay his former wife Jerry Hall. Phil, 57, had to pay his second wife Jill Taverman $34 million when they split 14 years ago, meaning the musician has now paid out $84 million in divorce settlements. His first marriage to actress Andrea Bertorelli ended acrimoniously in 1980. Phil and Orianne met in 1994 when he was on tour and still married to Jill. They got married after five years together and have two children, eight-year-old Nicholas and four-year-old Matthew. Since their break-up, the singer has been linked to U.S. news anchorwoman Dana Tyler. Britain's biggest ever divorce settlement came in 2006 when London stockbroker John Chapman had to pay his ex-wife Beverley $96 million. *** June 24, 2008: " Phil Collins hits out" Phil Collins has hit out at artists using their songs in musicals. Despite hoping to pen a Broadway show, the Genesis singer ‘doesn’t approve’ of musicians allowing their songs to be used on stage. He said: “I would like to do a Broadway musical, well, not even Broadway, just a musical. I wouldn’t use my own songs, I don’t really approve of that. I don’t think it’s something I would want to get involved in.” Phil wrote the soundtrack for the 1999 animated movie ‘Tarzan’, and had a heavy involvement in the 2006 Broadway theatre production, in New York, writing 11 new songs for the stage adaptation. He also revealed possible further plans for the show, adding: “The ‘Tarzan’ show is going to open in Germany and there are plans to adapt that for a sexier version. A sexy Tarzan. No, not an X-rated version, but there’s life in that….” Phil recently announced he plans to retire but insists he will ‘keep on writing’. *** Music singer, songwriter, drummer and actor Phil Collins pictures (pic) and photo gallery, albums covers pictures. Birth name: Philip David Charles Collins. Born: January 30, 1951 Chiswick, London, England, UK. Nickname: Little Elvis. Height: 5' 6" (1.68 m). (divorced) they have two children. Philip David Charles Collins is an English singer, songwriter, drummer and actor. He is best known as the lead singer and drummer of progressive rock group Genesis and as a Grammy and Academy Award-winning solo artist. He is also an accomplished actor, having starred in numerous films. Collins sang the lead vocals on eight American chart-toppers between 1984 and 1989; seven as a solo artist and one with Genesis. His singles, often dealing with lost love, ranged from the drum-heavy "In the Air Tonight", to the dance pop of "Sussudio", to the political statements of his most successful song, "Another Day in Paradise". His international popularity transformed Genesis from a progressive rock group to a regular on the pop charts and an early MTV mainstay. Collins's professional career began as a drummer, first with obscure rock group Flaming Youth and then more famously with Genesis. In Genesis, Collins originally supplied backing vocals for front man Peter Gabriel, singing lead on only two songs; it would not be until Gabriel's departure in 1975 that he became the group's lead singer. As the decade closed, Genesis's first international hit, "Follow You, Follow Me", demonstrated a drastic change from the band's early years. His concurrent solo career, heavily influenced by his personal life, brought both him and Genesis commercial success. According to Atlantic Records, Collins's total worldwide sales as a solo artist, as of 2002, were over 100 million. |
