Music singer Raheem DeVaughn pictures (pic) and photo gallery, albums covers pictures. Raheem DeVaughn the New Jersey-born, Maryland-raised, D.C. known singer had an epiphany early in his college career at Coppin State University, when he saw a group of street corner singers and began harmonizing with them. It turned his life focus to that of becoming a professional singer, and he attained relatively quick success, winning local awards and successfully releasing some independent work in the D.C. area over the next few years. He ultimately gained the attention of veteran producers DJ Jazzy Jeff (as Rahiem) and Kenny Burns (known as former A&R for Roc-A-Fella Records) and signed a recording contract with Jive Records in 2002. DeVaughn's first solo single released on a major label was the song entitled "You". With it's airy vocals and smooth sound, "You" brought more attention to Raheem as well as his cultivated sense of creativity. DeVaughn's first Jive Records release, "The Love Experience", was acclaimed and boasted some of the soulful and exquisitely deep lyrics those labeled "neo-soul" are renowned for. DeVaughn has been categorized amongst the likes of Dwele, Van Hunt, D'Angelo, Marvin Gaye, Donnie Hathaway and Stevie Wonder. His sound is so unique yet simple and while he does not boast the world's greatest singing voice, he knows how to use the voice he has and his arrangements are cognizant of an experienced gentleman who has lived in an era the preceeds him. Raheem DeVaughn occasionally releases music under the rap alias Chronkite.
