August 13, 2008: "Maternal Salma Hayek"
Salma Hayek is very maternal. The 'Frida' actress gave birth to her daughter Valentina Paloma last September and has impressed her friend, American fashion stylist Phillip Bloch, with her parenting skills. Phillip told America's OK! magazine: "She's nurturing and maternal." The stylist also revealed Salma was keen to "nest" with her daughter following the birth instead of rushing back to work. Salma and Valentina Paloma's father, French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault, announced they had called off their engagement last month, but Phillip insists the actress is dealing well with the split. He said: "Salma has survived many romances. She finds happiness in the ones she loves. She's passionido!" Salma and Francois-Henri were reportedly set to marry later this year. *** August 5, 2008: "Bomb Threats Scare Tom Cruise, Salma Hayek's Production Companies" Tom Cruise and Salma Hayek's production companies have both received bomb threats from an anonymous phone caller, which turned out to be a false alarm. Cruise' United Artists production company, Hayek's Ventanarosa production company, and talent agency ICM had been evacuated when other tenants at the MGM building had received a mysterious phone call saying a bomb would be activated at noon. After notifying the Los Angeles Police Department, the building occupants were reportedly told to vacate the premises from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The property was immediately searched thoroughly for explosives or other suspicious devices. However, nothing suspicious was found. The LAPD has allowed the tenants to reenter the building at 2 p.m. *** July 18, 2008: "Salma Hayek And Fiance Call Off Engagement" Salma Hayek and her fiance have called off their engagement. The 'Frida' actress and French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault were reportedly set to marry later this year, but their spokesperson confirms the plans have now been "canceled." The representative said: "We are sad to announce the engagement of Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault has been cancelled. There will be no further comment." Salma - who met Francois-Henri in Venice in May 2006 - revealed earlier this year she didn't see the importance of getting married, and instead wanted to celebrate their relationship with a huge party for friends and family. She said: "I don't have a need for marriage. You want to grow old with someone, you want to have a partner and to have children - we have all those things. Some people need the commitment. Maybe we'll just have the party!" In the interview, Salma also insisted the couple were happy with their relationship and could cope with Francois-Henri living in Paris, France, while Salma stays with Valentina in Los Angeles. She added: "To most women it's crazy. But every relationship is unique, and in order to make it work you have to be willing to listen - not only to your partner, but to the relationship itself." We might not look like the perfect couple, or like our parents did, but this is our love story.'" *** July 2, 2008: "Salma Hayek Planning $3.5 Million Wedding" Salma Hayek is reportedly planning to spend $3.5 million on her wedding. The 'Frida' actress is set to wed Francois in a lavish ceremony in France next spring. A source told the National Enquirer magazine: "It took Francois over a year to get Salma to agree to marry him, and he doesn't want to spare any expense. Francois basically gave her the key to the vault and said, 'Go wild.'" "Salma has dreamed her whole life about a Cinderella wedding." Salma is believed to have ordered a $500,000 customized wedding gown made by Nicolas Ghesquiere, who previously designed Nicole Kidman's wedding dress. The couple reportedly plan to fly in 400 guests on private jets to join them for the five-day celebrations, which will be held at a chateau near St. Tropez. The source added: "The ceremony and the reception will be off the charts. The flower budget alone is almost a million dollars. Guests will eat Beluga caviar, fresh lobster and Kobe beef from Japan. They will enjoy the finest French and Italian wines and champagne. The total food budget for food and alcohol is more than $1 million." The couple are also said to have ordered an impressive seven-tier wedding cake which will cost around $100,000. Valentina will be dressed in a handmade $50,000 gown. *** May 30, 2008: "Salma Hayek Slams Paparazzi For Attacks" Actress Salma Hayek has hit out at aggressive photographers, because they continue to jeopardize the safety of her baby. Salma Hayek gave birth to daughter Valentina, whom she had with partner Francois-Henri Pinault last year. Salma Hayek says she is shocked by the lengths snappers will go to get photos of the star with her family. Salma Hayek says, "I was hounded when I was pregnant. And even more since I've had the baby. They are parked outside of your house and they will not move for months. I didn't leave my house for nearly three months... I've gotten hit with a camera before." And Hayek has grown increasingly concerned since a February clash with photographers nearly sent her daughter flying to the pavement from her caretaker's arms. Salma Hayek recalls, "First I see them attacking me with the camera and the flashes. Now she starts screaming, the baby. Then they push the nanny, she was going to the floor. "It was so disturbing. First Salma Hayek said she wasn't going to marry her baby daddy and now she says she won't baptize little Valentina Paloma, which clashes with her parents' religious beliefs. Salma's producer pal Felipe Fernandez del Paso recently spent Easter with her and has confirmed that Valentina won't be christened. He tells PeopleEnEspanol.com, "The little girl is about to turn six months old. She's beautiful. On how Valentina has changed her personally: I don�t remember very well who I was before. Salma Hayek biography (bio): Salma Hayek Jimenez is an Academy Award, Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated Mexican actress, Daytime Emmy-winning director, and an Emmy-nominated tv and film producer. Hayek has appeared in more than thirty films and performed as an actress outside of Hollywood in Mexico and Spain. Hayek's charitable work includes increasing awareness on violence against women and discrimination against immigrants. Hayek was born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico to Sami Hayek, a Mexican oil company executive, and Diana Jim�nez, an opera singer. Hayek's paternal grandparents were Mexicans of Lebanese descent, while her mother is of Spanish descent. Reflecting her Arab heritage, her first name literally means 'peace' or 'calm' in Arabic.
