August 21, 2008: "Other Driver Involved In Shia LaBeouf's July Car Crash Named"
After almost a month of referring to an unnamed "other vehicle's driver," authorities have finally named the other party involved in Shia LaBeouf's July car crash. Herbert Simon, 21, is believed to have had run a red light around 2:30 a.m. on July 27, causing the 22-year-old actor's Ford F-150 truck to hit his car. Although authorities are still trying to find out if Simon was driving at that time, Los Angeles Sheriff spokesman Steve Whitmore tells E! news that he was issued a citation because it was his car that ran a red light. The "Transformers" star was attempting a legal left turn in West Hollywood by the time of the accident, causing his truck to roll over twice. LaBeouf and passenger, "Transformers 2" co-star Isabel Lucas, were taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. While Lucas was treated for minor injuries and released on the same day, he underwent surgery for breaking his left hand. LaBeouf was also booked for suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence. *** August 8, 2008: "Shia LaBeouf's Hand Injury Might Be Written Into "Transformers 2" Script" Taking advantage of Shia LaBeouf's current condition, director Michael Bay says he's thinking of writing the young actor's hand injury into the story of "Transformer 2." In an interview with Access Hollywood, Bay says he is figuring a way to incorporate the young star's real life hand injury to "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" script. He says, "I spoke to him yesterday in the hospital. His two fingers are pretty mashed, but we're figuring out a way to shoot around it, kind of write it in the story." 22-year-old LaBeouf obtained his injury last week after his Ford F-150 truck collided with another vehicle in the wee hours of Sunday morning. His left hand was crushed and required surgery. His co-star, Isabel Lucas, only suffered minor wounds. Bay defends the actor from his suspicion of driving under the influence charge. He says the actor was "drinking hours and hours before" but he was not drunk. He has also recounted a conversation with LaBeouf about safety before the accident. He says, "We had a little heart to heart the week before when he bought a brand new motorcycle and I [said] 'Dude! You cannot ride that motorcycle! If you crash, you put 1,500 people out of work.' He said, 'Ok, I won't ride it, I won't ride it, I'll just drive my truck.'" The sequel to the 2007 live action blockbuster film was put on hold for a month to give time for LaBeouf to recuperate. *** August 7, 2008: "Shia LeBeouf Headed To Rehab" Shia LaBeouf is reportedly heading to rehab. The 'Transformers' staris said to be considering a visit to a rehabilitation clinic to combat his alcohol addiction. A source told TV show 'Extra': "He is thinking about going to rehab. Judges like to see it." However, a representative for Shia refused to confirm or deny the rumors, adding: "Right now, we're focusing on Shia's hand." Shia was told last week he would not be charged over the car accident as the other driver was at fault. Los Angeles Sheriff's spokesperson Steve Whitmore explained: "The other car ran a red light and, if not already, they will be cited." "They will now be listed as Party One on the report, indicating they were at fault." *** July 31, 2008 : "Witness: Shia LaBeouf Was Told To Leave The Accident Scene" Shia LaBeouf was just taking responsibility for his actions during the car crash he was involved in on early Sunday morning, according to an eyewitness to the scene. A man claiming to have witnessed the said accident, wherein the "Indiana Jones" star's pickup truck collided into another vehicle this weekend, says the other driver was telling the actor to flee the scene but LaBeouf didn't want to. Witness Brian Perrulli had arrived on the scene after the crash and overheard the unnamed driver of the other vehicle telling the young actor to leave the scene and pretend it never happened. He tells Accesshollywood.com, "Shia was tending to the other people in the car, signing over information, like insurance and stuff, and basically, I overheard the guy tell him, 'You should just get out of here and go,' and Shia said, 'Nah, man. I gotta deal with this. My license plate, it's my car. I don't wanna go. I gotta deal with this.'" "The guy Shia hit told him, 'You should get outta here,' and 'I never saw you.' He said, 'I never saw you,' and Shia said, 'No, man, I gotta stay here and deal with this. It's my problem.'" Perrulli also says that LaBeouf didn't appear to be intoxicated. He continues, "He looked more disoriented and shocked more than drunk. I wouldn't have thought he was drunk." *** July 30, 2008: "Shia LaBeouf Not To Blame For Car Accident" "Transformer" star Shia LaBeouf was not to blame for an early-morning car wreck in Los Angeles, according to the sheriff's department. They are pinning fault on the other driver for apparently running a red light. Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore has said detectives have determined the other driver, who has not been identified, ran the light and will also be cited. LaBeouf was booked for a misdemeanor DUI and underwent surgery for injuries to his left hand. "He was not at fault," Whitmore said. LaBeouf's pickup truck collided with another vehicle at 3 a.m. Sunday in West Hollywood. LaBeouf was trying to make a left turn when his pickup collided with another vehicle, rolling the truck over. According to the Associated Press, a person close to production of the "Transformers" sequel said LaBeouf's passenger in the accident was Isabel Lucas, a 23-year-old Australian who plays a supporting role. Lucas has not appeared in any American films. She does have several upcoming projects, however, and has returned to production on "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." The movie is due out next June. Melissa Kates, a publicist for LaBeouf, said he plans to return to work within a month. *** July 29, 2008: "Shia LaBeouf's "Transformers" Co-Star Isabel Lucas Reportedly Passenger In Car During Crash" It has been claimed Isabel suffered minor injuries in the collision which occurred at 3am in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Shia was arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI). However, Isabel's agent Theresa Peters has refused to confirm her client was present at the crash. She said: "Everything out there is complete speculation and gossip. She's at work today. She's back on the set of 'Transformers 2'." Before the accident, Shia was allegedly seen drinking shots of alcohol at a nightclub in the city. A source told Us Weekly magazine: "He was dancing around and acting really crazy. He kept doing shots of whiskey. He stayed until the band was done and then stumbled out of the club." Meanwhile, the actor has spoken about his troubled relationship with alcohol. In an interview for the September edition of Details magazine, Shia said: "It's not something that is conducive to being a role model. And I don't know how to do it like a gentleman. I don't know how to have one drink." *** July 28, 2008: "Shia LeBeouf Arrested" Shia LaBeouf has been arrested in Los Angeles for suspected drink driving after crashing his truck in a serious accident. The star of Transformers and the recent Indiana Jones film was driving his pick up truck early Sunday morning when he crashed into a car and flipped his own vehicle over. Shia was arrested and then treated for injuries to his head and hand. LA County Sheriff Sgt Scott Wolf told reporters: “It was immediately apparent to officers responding on the scene that LaBeouf was intoxicated and he was subsequently placed under arrest.” The actor is currently filming Transformers 2 but due the hand injury will now be unable to work for around a month. His publicist said: “Attorneys for Mr. LaBeouf confirm that an automobile accident involving an additional party occurred early morning in Los Angeles on July 27, 2008. “Shia is currently recovering from extensive hand surgery with plans to return to work on the set of Transformers 2 within one month. No further comment will be issued at this time.” *** June 12, 2008: "Shia LaBeouf Apologizes For Homophobic YouTube Clip" Shia LaBeouf is "very embarrassed" about a video posted on YouTube in which he uses a homophobic slur in jest, Shia LaBeouf's representative says, People reports. The video was recorded several years ago, Shia LaBeouf's rep told E! online. In it, Shia LaBeouf appears to be at a house party where, in an attempt to entice his friend into a slapping contest, the star calls the friend an anti-gay slur - and gets hit in return. "He regrets having used the word in any capacity and is very embarrassed that this footage is being seen by anyone," LaBeouf's rep said. *** June 6, 2008: "Shia LaBeouf: 'My dad lives in my garage'" Shia LaBeouf's dad Jeffrey is apparently some sort of crazy "I live in a tepee" guy. But during the cold months, Shia LaBeouf lovingly opens up his home to his father. Except this time, outside Shia LaBeouf Manor, Jeffrey told Star "I live here now." Here's what Shia had to say about his new tenant: "I love him, but we have similar tastes. Living in close proximity, we get into little battles. Over the fridge, over supplies, just everyday average stuff. Toothpaste, clean towels... it becomes a little overbearing, so we keep him in the garage." But Jeffrey may be overstaying his welcome! "It's not winter anymore, and he's still here," says Shia. "You can't be like, 'Hey Dad, listen, it's time to go back to your tepee.' You can't make him leave." *** May 25, 2008: "Megan Fox And Shia LaBeouf Romance Rumors" Megan Fox has seemingly caught the attention of her "Transformers" costar, Shia LaBeouf. Hollywood reporters claims that the two are secretly hot for each other, and claims that Megan Fox described Shia, 21, as "The best kisser - ever" despite the of fact that Megan Fox's engaged to Brian Austin Green. The source alleges that Megan Fox "has been secretly seeing Shia and is all torn up because she can't bring herself to tell Brian she's in love with someone else." *** Actor Shia LaBeouf picture(s)/pic(s), wallpaper and photo gallery. Birth name: Shia Saide LaBeouf. Other names: Shia La Beouf / Shia LeBouef. Born: June 11, 1986 Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. Height: 5' 10½" (1.79 m). Shia LaBeouf biography (bio): Shia Saide LaBeouf is a Daytime Emmy Award-winning American actor and comedian. After growing up in California, he became known with a starring role in the Disney Channel series Even Stevens. He made the transition to film roles with Holes, a box office success, and has since appeared in several Hollywood films, including Constantine, I, Robot, and The Greatest Game Ever Played. In 2007, LaBeouf starred in Disturbia, Transformers, and Surf's Up, and is slated to appear in 2008's Indiana Jones 4. Several media publications have speculated that LaBeouf, whose screen persona was described by Time magazine as that of the "scrappy kid next door", might become a major film star throughout 2007. Childhood: Shia LaBeouf was born in Los Angeles, California, the only child of Shayna (née Saide), a dancer and ballerina turned visual artist and jewelry designer, and Jeffrey Craig LaBeouf, a Vietnam War veteran who "drifted" from job to job, working as a mime at a circus and as a rodeo clown. LaBeouf's maternal grandfather, who shared his first name, was a comedian who worked in the Borscht Belt of the Catskill Mountains, and his paternal grandmother was a Beatnik poet and lesbian who associated with Allen Ginsberg. The name "Shia" is Hebrew for 'gift from God' and the surname "LaBeouf" is a misspelling of "Le Boeuf", the French term for 'the beef'. LaBeouf has said that he comes from "five generations of performers" and was "acting when [he] came out of the womb". LaBeouf's father is a Cajun (once described by LaBeouf as a "Ragin' Cajun") and his New York-born mother is Jewish, and LaBeouf was raised in the Jewish religion and had a Bar Mitzvah. LaBeouf has described his parents as "hippies", his father as "tough as nails and a different breed of man", and his upbringing as similar to a "hippy lifestyle", stating that his parents were "pretty weird people, but they loved me and I loved them". LaBeouf's father used to grow cannabis, and the two smoked marijuana together when LaBeouf was ten. LaBeouf has also said that his father was "on drugs" during his childhood, being addicted to heroin and placed in drug rehabilitation for heroin addiction, while LaBeouf's mother was "trying to hold down the fort". His parents eventually divorced, and he had what he has described as a "good childhood", growing up poor with his mother (who worked selling fabrics and brooches) in Echo Park, Los Angeles, California, and attending a predominantly Latino and African-American school. LaBeouf would "create things, story lines and fictitious tales" during his childhood, and practiced stand-up comedy around his neighborhood as an "escape" from a hostile environment. He began performing stand-up and "talking dirty" at comedy clubs (including the The Ice House in Pasadena) at the age of ten (describing his appeal as having "disgustingly dirty" material and a "50-year-old mouth on the 10-year-old kid"). LaBeouf subsequently found an agent through the Yellow Pages, being taken on after doing his stand-up act for her and pretending to be his own manager, promoting himself in the third person. Career: LaBeouf has said that he initially became an actor because his family was broke, not because he wanted to pursue an acting career. He became well known among young audiences after playing Louis Stevens in the Disney Channel weekly program Even Stevens, a role for which he was cast three months after being signed by his agent. His father, at the time just released from rehab, served as his on-set parent and the two bonded. LaBeouf was awarded a Daytime Emmy Award for the role and has said that he "grew up on that show" and that his childhood was "kind of lost," although his being cast in the show was the "best thing" that has happened to him. During this time period, LaBeouf also appeared in sketch shows on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In 2003, he appeared in another Disney production, Holes, as Stanley "Caveman" Yelnats IV, opposite Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight and Tim Blake Nelson. While filming Holes, Voight gave LaBeouf a book on acting, and this made LaBeouf realize acting could be more than a job. The film was a moderate box office success. Steven Spielberg was also a fan of Shia in Holes, saying he reminded him of a young Tom Hanks. That same year, he was heavily featured in the HBO documentary show Project Greenlight, which chronicled the making of the independent film The Battle of Shaker Heights. He had a small role in I, Robot (2004) and appeared in the action-horror film Constantine (2005), opposite Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz, and in the Disney film The Greatest Game Ever Played, playing Francis Ouimet, a real-life golf player from a poor family who won the 1913 U.S. Open Championship. In 2006, LaBeouf co-starred in the ensemble film drama Bobby, which called for him to do his first nude scene when he strips naked while on an LSD trip. LaBeouf has said that he is not the "All-American Disney role model" and chose to appear in some of his film roles in order to "curse as much as possible" and "age [himself] publicly" after his Disney roles, specifying that Disney is "great and all" and a "nurturing place" but "dehabilitating for an actor", being "one constant string of same". He has also said that he enjoyed being a child actor and hated school. In 2007, LaBeouf starred in Disturbia, a thriller released on April 13. He played a teenager under house arrest who suspects that his neighbor, played by David Morse, is a serial killer. LaBeouf received positive reviews for the role, with the Buffalo News stating that LaBeouf "has grown into an appealing, bright young actor who is able to simultaneously pull off [the character's] anger, remorse and intelligence", Kurt Loder of MTV writing that LaBeouf "gets his star ticket decisively punched", and the San Francisco Chronicle noting that LaBeouf is "fast becoming the best young actor in Hollywood". In comparing the film with Rear Window, The New York Daily News described LaBeouf's appeal as "more John Cusack than Jimmy Stewart". Also in 2007, LaBeouf provided a voice role as Cody Maverick in the animated film Surf's Up and played teenager Sam Witwicky, who becomes involved in the Autobot-Decepticon war on Earth, in Michael Bay's Transformers, released on July 3. LaBeouf has said that he is a fan of The Transformers television series and the 1986 The Transformers: The Movie, and executive producer Steven Spielberg cast him in the role having been impressed by his performance in Holes. Disturbia was the most important film to LaBeouf of his three 2007 films, because it was a "character-driven" role. In 2007, LaBeouf presented an award at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards on March 31, appeared on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on April 2, and hosted Saturday Night Live on April 14. He was named 2007's "star of tomorrow" by the ShoWest convention of the National Association of Theater Owners. In April 2007, LaBeouf was cast to appear in Indiana Jones IV, which began filming in June 2007 for a May 22, 2008 release date. Spielberg cast him in the film, impressed by his performance in Transformers. LaBeouf has stated that he would subsequently like to appear in a smaller-scale role. His next films will be Indiana Jones 4 and Eagle Eye, a thriller directed by D. J. Caruso and scheduled to begin filming in the fall of 2007. He has also signed on for two Transformers sequels. Personal life: LaBeouf attended 32nd Street Visual and Performing Arts Magnet school in Los Angeles (LAUSD) and Alexander Hamilton High School, although he received most of his education from tutors. He bought his own house at the age of eighteen, lives in Burbank, California and remains close to both his parents; his mother now lives nearby in Tujunga, Los Angeles, California and his father in Montana. LaBeouf was accepted to Yale University, but declined, later remarking that he is "getting the kind of education you don't get at school", although he would like to attend college. LaBeouf is a smoker, drives a Nissan Maxima and has two bulldogs named Brando and Rex. He has said that "sports is so big in my life" and that he is a "film junkie". He enjoys the music of The Shins and the hip-hop label Definitive Jux. As far as dating goes, he and his longtime girlfriend, China Brezner broke up before Disturbia. She was the daughter of producer Larry Brezner whom LaBeouf worked on a movie project with. He is currently single and says he's "too busy for a relationship." LaBeouf has cited actors Dustin Hoffman, Jodie Foster, Jon Voight and John Turturro as inspirations, and has said that he is "very serious" about his career and has made "a calculated effort to stay away from the party scene", believing that "if the industry takes you lightly because you're always partying, then they will take your work lightly as well".Interviewer Jamie Portman of The Vancouver Sun described LaBeouf as seeming to have a "love-hate relationship with the teenage culture that has spawned him". LaBeouf has said that although he does not devoutly practice Judaism, he has a "personal relationship with God that happens to work within the confines of Judaism". |
