Also known as: Piu. Born: March 12, 1984 India. Shreya Ghoshal biography (bio): Shreya Ghoshal or Shreya Ghosal is an indian playback singer. She has sung several songs in Bollywood and Kollywood. Besides Hindi, she has also sung songs in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and Marathi. Early years: Shreya was born to parents of Bengali origin. She grew up in Rawatbhata, a small town near the city of Kota, Rajastan. Her father works in Bhabha Atomic Research Center(BARC) as a nuclear power plant engineer for the Nuclear Power Corporation of India. Her mother is a post-graduate in Literature. As early as at the age of four Shreya used to correctly sing whenever her mother used to play the harmonium. Her parents recognized her inclination towards singing and enrolled her for formal training in Hindustani classical music in Kota with Shri Maheshchandra Sharma. As a child she participated and won the children-special episode of the Sa Re Ga Ma contest on Zee TV. Kalyanji who also judged the competition, convinced her parents to move to Mumbai. She trained with him for one and half years. While in Mumbai, she continued her training in classical music with Shrimati Mukta Bhide. Career: She was first noticed by the film director Sanjay Leela Bhansali when she participated in Sa Re Ga Ma for a second time, this time competing against adults. In 2000, He offered her the opportunity to be the voice of Paro, the lead female character of his then upcoming film Devdas which was to be portrayed by Aishwarya Rai. Shreya sang 5 songs in the film, several opposite veteran industry singers like Kavita Krishnamurthy She has since gone on to sing for various music directors like, M.M. Kreem, Anu Malik,A.R. Rahman, Ilayaraja, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Pritam etc. Some of her memorable songs include Jaadu hai nashaa hai (Jism), Dola re Dola (Devdas,2002), Piyu Bole (Parineeta), Pal Pal (Lage Raho Munnabhai), Barso Re (Guru), Mere Dholna (Bhool Bhulaiyaa), Yeh Ishq Hai (Jab We Met). Today Shreya is one of the most established and leading singers in the industry. She has sung in various regional languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi & Bengali, as well. |
