Sugarland is an American country music duo composed of two Atlanta, Georgia singer-songwriters: lead singer Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush. The group was founded in 2003 by Kristen Hall, also a singer-songwriter from Atlanta. Hall, who named the band, was a member of Sugarland until her departure in 2006. Nettles, Bush, and Hall were all members of Atlanta's folk-rock scene in the 1990s and early 2000s prior to Sugarland's formation. All three played frequently at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, Georgia, which Nettles' husband owned for a time. Nettles had played in a band called Soul Miner's Daughter, later forming her own Jennifer Nettles Band. Bush was half of the folk-rock duo Billy Pilgrim, and Hall had a solo career that often crossed paths with the Indigo Girls.

After several years of playing together as a band, Sugarland was signed to Mercury Nashville Records in 2003. Their debut single, "Baby Girl", was released that year, eventually setting a record for the longest chart run on the Billboard country charts since the inception of Nielsen SoundScan in 1990. To date, Sugarland has released two albums, in addition to charting eight singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. The duo is also the 2007 winner of the Country Music Association's Duo of the Year award.

Sugarland success:
Sugarland has received more mainstream national attention than any of the three members had as solo performers. The group released four singles from Twice the Speed of Life: "Baby Girl," "Something More," "Just Might (Make Me Believe)," and "Down In Mississippi (Up To No Good)". (A fifth track, "Stand Back Up", received significant play as an album cut, and thus reached the lower regions of the charts.) The group's first mainstream album, Twice the Speed of Life, has sold over 2 million copies, earning it a 2x platinum designation.

In late 2005, the band performed with Bon Jovi on Country Music Television's musical fusion show, Crossroads; Nettles sang with Bon Jovi on their single, "Who Says You Can't Go Home." (The song later went on to become a #1 on the country charts.) They toured the United States and Canada performing with Brad Paisley in 2005 and in 2006 with Brooks and Dunn. They were nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy and performed the song "Something More" at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2006.

Sugarland performed at the 2006 CMT Music Awards, where they received multiple nominations including Group/Duo Video of the Year for "Just Might (Make Me Believe)," Breakthrough Video of the Year for "Something More," and Collaborative Video of the Year for "Who Says You Can't Go Home."

For Sesame Street, the duo appeared on the 2007 DVD release Kids' Favorite Country Songs to sing "Songs" with Elmo.
In the fall of 2007, the duo will kick-off their first headlining concert tour. The Change for Change Tour is part of the CMT On Tour series for 2007 and will hit thirty-two cities. Little Big Town and Jake Owen will serve as opening acts.

In 2007 the duo performed on the 41st CMA Awards and won an award for Vocal Duo of the Year.
On November 18, 2007, they performed a cover of Beyoncé Knowles' "Irreplaceable" at the American Music Awards. Knowles joined Sugarland on stage starting with the second verse. The performance drew some poor reviews with the Village Voice calling it "a well-intentioned mess", although other critics also noted that the crowd enjoyed the performance.

Departure of Kristen Hall:
On January 17, 2006, Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush released a statement on the official Sugarland website stating that "Kristen [Hall] has decided that she wants to stay home and write songs, and we support her in that decision."

Enjoy the Ride:
Sugarland released a new album on November 7, 2006 entitled Enjoy the Ride. The set sold 211,000 during its first week and opened at #4 on the US Top 200 and at #2 on the Country Chart. A special bonus track edition was offered for a limited time at Target containing two additional tracks Baby Girl (Clear Channel Stripped) and Down in Mississippi (Clear Channel Stripped).

"Want To" was selected as the lead-off single for Sugarland's Enjoy the Ride album. The song became the duo's first #1, spending two weeks there. It was followed by "Settlin'", which also reached the top of the charts.
"Settlin'" was used as the theme song for the 2007 ACC Men's Basketball Tournament during Raycom Sports' coverage of the event, as well as the 2007 SEC Men's Basketball Tournament during Lincoln Financial's broadcast.
Sugarland performed the song "Stay" at the 2007 CMT Awards on April 16. They performed "Everyday America" at the 2007 ACM awards, as well as on the television show The Tonight Show. "Everyday America" is currently the theme song for the show Good Morning America, which hosted the duo on July 27th, 2007 where they performed the Good Morning America version live. In the fall of 2007, Sugarland will headline their fist concert tour. The Change for Change Tour along with opening acts Little Big Town and Jake Owen.
