Van Morrison - Tupelo Honey album cover | |||||||||||||||
Tupelo Honey is an album by Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison, released in 1971. The hymn-like title track has been an enduring hit, as well as the other single released from the album, "Wild Night".
The namesake for the album is a varietal honey produced from the flowers of the tupelo tree in southeastern United States. The cover photograph showed Janet, his wife at the time, on horseback and Van walking alongside. It was an album of rural, domestic bliss, but the marriage was to break up within a few years. The vocals on the album were always live after rehearsing each song five or six times, according to saxophonist Boots Houston. The only overdubbing was backing vocals and horns.
