| "Trick Me" is an R&B song written by American songwriter and producer Dallas Austin -well-known for writing hits for artists such as TLC and Janet Jackson- for singer Kelis's 2003 third studio album Tasty.
The song was released as the album's second single in spring 2004. It was only released in Europe and basically everywhere except the United States. US label for Kelis, Arista, folded right after releasing the hit single Milkshake, so Kelis' album Tasty remained stagnent and its promotion halted. However, the European label for the singer, Virgin Records, decided to shoot a video for the ska-tinged "Trick Me" -they booked well-known director Little X- and to release it where they could. This was a very good move, since "Trick Me" became Kelis' biggest hit -right under "Milkshake"- in Europe. The single sold 147,000 copies in the United Kingdom, and 140,000 copies in Australia (2xplatinum) The single peaked at number 7 in the United World Chart. It did not match the commercial success of Milkshake, Kelis's previous single, but in the countdown 2004 it was placed higher than its predecessor. Milkhake, "Trick me" reached the position 27 (2.894.000 points) and Milkshake the position 35 (2.603.000 points). | |||||||||||||||
