Tha Carter preceded Lil Wayne's work in Tha Drought mixtape and Tha Prefix mixtape, where he freestyled over The Black Album. Tha Carter peaked at number five of the 2004 Billboard 200, and at number two of the Billboard magazine Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. A separate version of the album, "The Screwed and Chopped" version was produced by Michael 5000 Watts of Swishahouse.
