Manic Street Preachers - New Art Riot EP album cover
New Art Riot is an EP released in 1990 by Manic Street Preachers, and it was the first release from the band to feature the 'classic' four-piece line-up (of James Dean Bradfield, Nicky Wire, Richey James Edwards and Sean Moore).
New Art Riot sounds similar to the single "Motown Junk", with short, fast-paced rock 'n' roll songs; the influence of favourites such as The Clash is evident. The EP provides a musical template for what was to come afterwards, and although somewhat forgotten, sits neatly with the rest of the Manics' catalogue. A live version of New Art Riot (titled "New Art Riot in E Minor") featured as a b-side on the The Holy Bible single Faster/P.C.P.. A promotional video was filmed for the track "Strip It Down", which was a straightforward film of the band performing against some mind/eye boggling computer graphics. Track listing: CD 1. "New Art Riot" – 3:10 2. "Strip It Down" – 2:26 3. "Last Exit On Yesterday" – 2:41 4. "Teenage 20/20" – 3:01
