Motion City Soundtrack - commit this to memory album cover | |||||||||||||||
Commit This to Memory is Motion City Soundtrack second album and the band's follow up to I Am the Movie. The album was produced by Mark Hoppus and released on June 7, 2005, on Epitaph Records.
Guitarist Joshua Cain has been quoted to say that their songs "are like donuts." While that might not make much (or any) sense at first, what he means by it is that all of their songs have a really dark undertone, so dark that they could feel as if they could've only been written if they were empty on the inside. Yet, at the same time, the songs are so sugarcoated it's hard not to love them. Drummer Tony Thaxton has noted that he likes Commit This to Memory more than I Am the Movie because he feels it is more of a collaborative effort. Whereas many of the first album's songs were written by Justin Pierre and Joshua Cain before the final lineup of the band came together, everyone had input on this record. Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy and Mark Hoppus of blink-182 have guest vocals in the songs "Everything Is Alright" and "Hangman" respectively. The title of the album comes from the song "Hangman", which includes the lyrics "commit this to memory". A deluxe edition of the album was released on June 20, 2006, including an additional track and many bonus materials. Track listing 1. "Attractive Today" – 1:42 2. "Everything Is Alright" – 3:26 3.
