 Shooting Straight in the Dark is Mary Chapin Carpenter's third album. It was a #11 Country Album on the Billboard Country Albums chart. Four of its tracks became Billboard Hot Country Singles hits: "You Win Again" at #16, "Right Now" at #15, "Down at the Twist and Shout," her highest charting hit to date, at #2, and "Going Out Tonight" at #14. Another highlight is a song that never hit the charts, "Halley Came to Jackson," about the lives wrapped around two passes of Halley's Comet. Cajun group Beausoleil provides instrumental backup on "Down at the Twist and Shout." "You Win Again" and "Down at the Twist and Shout" also were accompanied by videos, which were popular on CMT and the now defunct Nashville Network.
