 In 1977, Plastic Letters, Blondie's second album on Chrysalis Records was released. It contained two top ten UK singles, and was the last Blondie album to be produced by Richard Gottehrer.

"Denis" is a cover of the 1963 hit, "Denise", by Randy & the Rainbows. It was a hit all over Europe; reaching Number 2 in February 1978 in the United Kingdom.

"(I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear" was the second single from the album, reaching number 10 in May 1978. The song was written by Blondie bass guitar player Gary Valentine, shortly before his departure from the band, just before the album was recorded. (So Chris Stein not only played guitar on the album, but also the bass guitar.)

"Kidnapper" was a hit in Japan.

Plastic Letters was digitally remastered and re-issued with two bonus tracks by Chrysalis Records in the UK in 1994. In 2001 the album was again digitally remastered and re-released by EMI-Capitol, this time along with four bonus tracks.
