"Ain't It Funny" is a pop/Latin song written by American singer-songwriter Jennifer Lopez and Cory Rooney for Lopez's second studio album, J. Lo (2001). It was produced by Rooney and Dan Shea and was released as the album's third international single in the autumn of 2001. The song reached the top five in Argentinia, Belgium, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Greece and entered the top ten in Belgium, Ireland, Norway, Portugal, and Switzerland.
The song was later remixed and re-released as "Ain't It Funny" (Murder Remix) (which features rappers Ja Rule and Caddillac Tah and was co-written by singer Ashanti who also sings the chorus) in 2002, taken from Lopez's remix album, J to tha L-O!: The Remixes. As "Ain't It Funny" wasn't released in the U.S., it didn't manage to chart on any of the Billboard charts. However, its remix became a big hit for Lopez, peaking at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, number four on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and number eight on the Hot Dance Club Play. Yet, the two songs are essentially two different songs with the same title. Its Spanish-language version, "Que Ironia (Ain't It Funny)" (meaning "What an Irony"), featured on the Dutch and Spanish editions of J. Lo, peaked at number ten on the Spanish Singles Chart. The sepia-toned music video, directed by Herb Ritts, features a gypsy-like theme. Mexican actor Eduardo Verástegui plays the role of the object of Lopez's desire. The video debuted in the week of July 2, 2001. | |||||||||||||||
